Delta i våra läger / grupper!
Welcome to IFK Västerås!
Discover the joy of skating – and find your place in our community.
We are a non-profit figure skating club in Västerås, offering training for children, teenagers and adults. Whether you are taking your first steps on the ice or looking to develop your skills, we are happy to help you find a suitable group.
Our training combines enjoyment, friendship and development, both on and off the ice. You can skate for fun, fitness and personal progress, or work towards competing.
Interested in joining?
Register your interest and tell us the skater’s age, previous experience and preferred training frequency. New skaters are welcomed before the autumn and spring terms, subject to availability.
An expression of interest does not guarantee a place. Your training options depend on available places and a suitable group.
Need help choosing a group or completing the form? Email [email protected]. You are welcome to write in English.
Our skating programmes
We have kept the Swedish programme names below so you can recognise them in our menus and registration system. The linked programme pages are in Swedish. Training days and times vary between groups and terms.
Aktiv Start – Learn to Skate
Skating school and beginner figure skating
For children aged approximately 4–12 who are new to skating or have basic skating experience. Children learn balance, movement and basic skating skills through playful, structured group sessions.
Children need to be able to stand up and move forwards on skates. No previous figure skating experience is needed.
Training: 1–2 days per week.
Fortsättning – Developing Your Skills
Figure skating foundations and preparation for competition
For children and young people who know the basics and want to develop their figure skating skills. You do not need competition ambitions to join a continuing skills group.
This programme also includes groups preparing for programme skating and competition. Moving to a new group is agreed with the coaches.
Training: 2–4 days per week.
Tonår & Vuxen – Teenagers and Adults
Beginners, continuing skaters and competition
For skaters aged 13 and above who want to train in a teenage or adult group. We welcome beginners, returning skaters and those with previous experience.
You need to be able to stand up and move forwards on skates. Training is adapted to your experience and goals. If you are interested in competing, talk to your coach.
Training: 1–3 days per week.
Träning & Tävling – Training and Competition
Development-focused figure skating
For skaters who have reached the required skill level for competition and want to develop further, with or without competition goals.
  • Skaters training without competing: 1–5 days per week.
  • Competitive skaters: 3–5 days per week.
For skaters in System 3 and the national series, training is individually adapted to their level, goals and ambitions.
A year of skating
Training, friendship and new experiences throughout the season.
Our skating year includes different training periods, holiday activities and events. The overview below is in Swedish and shows how the year is organised. The activities available to you depend on your skating programme.
Dates and registration
The overview is a general guide. Current dates, booking information and activity details are shared on our website and through SportAdmin. Camps and holiday training require separate registration.
Need help understanding the overview? Email [email protected] – we are happy to help.
Good to know
When can I start?
New skaters usually join before the autumn or spring term, subject to availability. For the best chance of a place, please register your interest:
  • Autumn term: by around 1 August. Regular term training normally starts in week 40.
  • Spring term: by around 1 December. Regular term training normally starts in week 2.
  • Late-season training: see the information published during spring.
You are also welcome to register your interest later. We may be able to offer a place if a suitable group has availability.
Can I try skating before joining?
We offer introductory sessions on selected occasions, including during school holidays. You can try skating alongside others who are also new.
We do not offer trial sessions during regular training.
Planning groups and coaching in advance helps us provide a welcoming, consistent training environment.
Dates, fees and booking information are published on our website. Advance registration and payment of the introductory session fee and membership fee are required.
Membership, fees and registration
To take part in regular training, you need club membership and a paid training fee. Submitting an expression of interest does not confirm a training place.
Membership runs from 1 July to 30 June. Training fees depend on your programme, training frequency and training period.
Registration and payment are managed through SportAdmin. Your registration is complete once the fee has been paid.
Already skating with us?
You do not need to submit a new expression of interest.
Before each new term, you will receive a registration offer by email and through SportAdmin.
The offer suggests training options based on your previous training. Contact us if you would like to discuss your training frequency or make a change.
Please respond by the deadline. If you are taking a break or leaving, choose “Jag ska inte vara med” (“I will not be taking part”). The registration offer is not an invoice.
SportAdmin and activity invitations
We use SportAdmin for activity invitations, club messages and registration. Log in using the email address registered with the club.
Please respond to every invitation, even if you cannot attend.
Each activity needs its own response. Read the invitation carefully and check the date, time and location.
Regular training invitations are normally sent six days before the session. Only attend the yellow activities you have been invited to.
If you have more than one child in the club, check that the correct child is selected before reading or responding. If your plans change, update your response as soon as possible.
If you are missing invitations, check that the registration fee has been paid and that the invitation has been sent. Contact us if something still seems wrong.
Equipment and off-ice training
The equipment you need depends on your programme and skating level. Please ask a coach before buying skates, whether new or second-hand.
Helmets are required in Aktiv Start. Teenage and adult beginners must also wear a helmet; any exception is decided by a coach. Wear gloves and clothing that keeps you warm while allowing you to move freely.
Off-ice training is part of our skating programmes. Bring suitable training clothes. Indoor sports shoes are only needed when training at Skallbergsskolan or another indoor sports hall. Ask your coach which training equipment to bring.
Member discount at Teijas Skateshop
Our member discount code is shared in club messages through SportAdmin and email. The code is for members only and must not be shared.
Accident insurance
Our accident insurance page explains the cover associated with club membership and what to do if you are injured during club activities. The insurer’s terms determine the cover.
If you are injured, inform your coach and the head coach or a board member. Keep receipts for any costs related to the accident.
Clubwear
Want to wear the club colours? Our clubwear is available to order from K-Skate and JBG Sport.
Being part of our club
We want everyone to feel welcome, respected and included. Skaters develop at different speeds and have different goals. We support each other and celebrate progress.
As a non-profit club, we depend on members and families helping with practical tasks, administration and events. Sharing these tasks gives coaches more time to prepare, deliver and follow up the skaters’ training. Expectations vary between programmes.
Photography and filming are not permitted during training. Planned club photography is arranged separately, with consent managed through SportAdmin.
Say hello – we are happy to meet you! 👋
We enjoy meeting parents and guardians at the rink. Getting to know each other helps us create a welcoming environment for our skaters.
Email is our main contact channel for questions.
Coaches focus on the skaters during training and need their breaks between sessions for rest and preparation.
If you would like to discuss training or your child’s development, email the group’s responsible coach in advance and briefly explain what you would like to discuss. This helps us prepare and arrange a conversation if needed.
For urgent information about today’s training, contact the responsible coach directly.
